World Cup hero Sir Geoff Hurst sells his 1966 number plate as we pass £1m in sales!
England are through to the World Cup semi-final, and Jude Bellingham has been nothing short of sensational, six goals in the tournament so far, including a double against Norway to send the Three Lions through.
We now face Argentina in Atlanta on Wednesday, with a place in the final, England’s first since 1966, on the line.
Which makes this next bit of news feel like perfect timing...
Sir Geoff Hurst, England's 1966 World Cup Final hat-trick hero, has sold his number plate, 66 GH, via the number plate classifieds website Plate-Trader.com
The plate itself tells its own story: 66 for the year of that famous win, GH for Geoff Hurst.
Sixty years on, and with England once again dreaming of lifting the trophy, it's hard to imagine a better moment for it to have found its new home.
The iconic registration had been up for auction with an auction house alongside a number of other items of Geoff Hurst memorabilia, but had remained unsold.
Geoff listed the plate himself on our website, which is a classifieds platform for personalised number plates, allowing buyers and sellers to deal directly with each other rather than through a dealer or middleman, saving both parties money as no commission is taken from sales.
After quite a bit of interest from buyers who recognised exactly what the plate represented, a sale was agreed and the paperwork completed smoothly.
Speaking about the process, Sir Geoff said:
"I was delighted to sell my cherished number plate 66GH through Plate Trader. The entire process was seamless and straightforward, and everything was handled professionally from valuation through to completion. I'd recommend Plate Trader to anyone looking to sell."
The sale also marks a milestone for us. It's taken the total value of plates sold through Plate Trader past £1 million!
There's something fitting about a plate tied to England's World Cup history being the one that got us there, especially with this year's tournament still being played as we write this.
The buyer, Greg Hawes, sent us the below photo of the plate on his car, and left us a glowing review on Trustpilot:
"I have just purchased a number plate from Plate-Trader and received excellent advice and service throughout. Firstly, the website is straight forward and very user friendly. I had a couple of questions relating to my transaction and contacted the Plate-Trader admin by email. The responses I received were prompt and comprehensive and I was also telephoned to help ensure the transaction went through seamlessly. Bridie and the Plate-Trader team went above and beyond. I am super happy with the plate and feel it is great value. I was searching for the right plate for several months and wish I had discovered Plate-Trader sooner. I can't recommend them highly enough."

66 GH joins other memorable plates that have sold via Plate Trader, from football-themed numbers like ET11 HAD to high-profile celebrity sales such as Duncan Bannatyne's 6 AVS.
Sir Geoff also has a few other plates for sale with us, including
WC66 SGH (World Cup 66 Sir Geoff Hurst)
